To The Movies (complete)

This is the "To The Movies" Suite from the album Theater combined into a single track.
While this is an instrumental track, lyrics have been written for it (included here) that tell a tale from the perspective of a lonely single person wherein they fantasize about asking out their love interest on a date to see a movie. They describe with great anticipation the events that lead up to the movie and even go so far as to imagine the film itself and the romantic exchanges that would occur afterwards under the starlit night. In the final verse, it is revealed that the entire occasion had only played out in the imagination of the lonely single person, as they hesitated too long to proposition the love interest, and the opportunity slipped away leaving them with only the memories of the imagined events. Oh, well. Maybe next time.

I just couldn't understand,
But I wanted to take you to the movies.

My dad loaned me twenty bucks.
We'll go see some film that sucks.
On our way we can both pick up a smoothie.

I'll pick you up after class.
I just filled my car with gas.
You can even pick out your favorite music.

The theater's been re-done.
I think that we'll have such fun
If you just let me take you to the movies.

Well, that opportunity passed,
'Cause I took too long to ask.
Maybe someday I'll take you to the movies.
